Gladstone City Library has a Local Collection Room which houses the local studies collection and family history resources.
Our Local Collection Room has computers specifically for local and family history research.
The area includes books, reports, newspaper clippings, microfiche, microfilm, and other materials that are only accessible in the Local Collection Room.
We have digitised copies of all Council Minutes: Calliope, Gladstone City, Miriam Vale, and Gladstone Regional. These are searchable and accessible at any of our library branches (photo ID will be required for access to the digital device). Some research requests can be placed by contacting Gladstone City Library.
Older editions of the Gladstone Observer newspaper are available on microfilm (1929 – June 2019). Bookings to use the reader/printer (for microfiche & microfilm) can be made by phoning 4976 6400 (bookings are not essential).
Our Family History Online page contains links to a variety of useful and reliable websites to assist you with your family history research. Connect to sites that provide instructions or guidance, cemetery records, archives and libraries, and access to records for births/marriages/deaths. We also offer some family history research guidance via our Tech Help program.
Our Information Links page can direct you to other reliable sources of information online. The Online Reference Collection page includes Text Queensland, which provides access to several historical resources.
Ancestry® Library Edition is a family history research database that can be accessed on the public computers located at each Gladstone Regional Libraries’ branch. Access is to the public library edition of Ancestry and may not contain all features available with personal subscriptions.
