Who can join?
Gladstone Regional Libraries provides a free library service to Queensland residents via six branches and the Library Out and About service. The library branches are located in Agnes Water, Boyne Island, Calliope, Gladstone, Miriam Vale, and Mount Larcom. The Library Out and About van visits the communities of Wartburg, Rosedale, Lowmead, Nagoorin, and Builyan on alternate Mondays and Wednesdays (click here for more information). The van provides a variety of resources to browse and borrow, as well as reserved items for customers to collect.
How to join
All new members must produce proof of identity and residency in Queensland; this can be in the form of a rates notice, licence (with Queensland address), government document, bank/utility statement, rent receipt, or letter from your employer stating that you are living or working in this area. An online form can be accessed here, but you will need to provide the appropriate ID at one of our branches.
Persons under 18 years of age
Children need a parent or guardian to sign them up for a library card. The parent/guardian must produce proof of identity and residency, as described above, and sign for responsibility of the library card and borrowed items. The card belongs to the adult who signed for it but the membership record is in the name of the child.
Information Privacy Collection Notice
As part of becoming a Library Member, Gladstone Regional Council will collect your personal information for the purposes of processing your application for membership and other associated functions and services. Council is authorised to collect this information under the Local Government Act 2009 and associated laws. Your personal information will not be disclosed to third parties without your consent, or, if required to do so by law. Your membership details are subject to the provisions of the Information Privacy Act 2009, Right to Information Act 2009 and the Public Records Act 2002.
Please contact us as soon as possible if your membership details change (i.e. change of residential/postal/email address, phone number, or name).
Each member can borrow a maximum of 20 items at a time. Loans are for 3 weeks but can be renewed (online, in-person, or by phone) up to 3 times, except when an item is overdue or reserved by another library member. Items can be returned to any of the library branches regardless of the borrowing location.
We do not charge fines for overdue items. Overdue notices are sent when any item is a week overdue and a warning is placed on the membership card. Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy reminder only and the due dates apply regardless of whether a notice letter/email is received by the borrower. Warnings remain on a membership record/card for one year. If a membership record has 3 warnings within a 12-month period, the card is suspended for 3 months.
Damaged or lost items
If a borrower damages or loses any library item they are required to pay the replacement cost, or provide an acceptable copy of the same title. There is a small fee for minor damage to any library item, including replacement cases, labels etc.
