History and Genealogy

The Gladstone City Library has a Local Collection Room which houses the local history collection, family history resources, and the genealogy collection. The room contains books, reports, newspaper clippings, microfiche, microfilm, and other paraphernalia.

You need to make a booking to use the reader/printer (for microfiche & microfilm). For bookings please phone 49766400.

Queensland Births, Deaths, and Marriages which has an online searchable database for Births up to 1913, Deaths up to 1983 and Marriages up to 1938.

NSW Registry of Births, Deaths, and Marriages which includes a first time user step-by-step guide.

Victorian Births, Deaths, and Marriages which includes a link to Maritime Births. Which is births which occured on boats on route to Victoria 1853-1920.

Western Australia Births, Deaths, and Marriages a searchable database from 1841

The Australian War Memorial which among other things, lists service records, Roll of Honour and official histories.

The State Library of Queensland also has a web page devoted to Family History which provides links to various resources.

The library, through State Library of Queensland also provides a free link to Ancestry.Com. This is only available on Library computers, one of which is housed in the Local Collection Room.

For further family history research, The Genealogical Society, Gladstone Division, Inc. is situated in the George Young Building, Francis Ward Drive, Gladstone and is open to the public.
